Am I Nima Chapter 2: What the Demo Shows

Chapter 2 has no separate release: the demo covered Chapter 1 and half of Chapter 2. Here is what players report from that section and what comes next.

There is no separate Chapter 2 release to download. HO! Games' 5 September 2026 Steam announcement states that the free demo contained Chapter 1 and half of Chapter 2, and that the finished game spreads more than 15 tests across five chapters. The Steam store page lists the full game for 27 November 2026, after an earlier 8 October 2026 date was moved back.

So "Chapter 2" means two different things depending on who is asking: the second half of the demo, which players have already walked through, and the retail chapter, which nobody outside the developers has described in detail.

What the demo's second half actually contains

The clearest picture comes from fan story explainers built on the demo. This is a player account, not developer commentary, and neither video states which build it was recorded on — see the full demo story breakdown and the longer story-and-endings explainer.

The section opens with Nima no longer strapped down. She wakes in her own bedroom rather than the basement, and for the first time can move around freely — though the room is still a cell. Searching it turns up swimming trophies, books on palaeontology, childhood drawings, and a diary whose pages are heavily scratched out; the surviving scrawl warns the reader not to trust the woman and to kill her. Knocking on the door produces the sound of several deadbolts being drawn back, and her mother lets her out but leaves the bathroom door as the only other opening.

The chapter's centrepiece is a pair of object tests at the table, with Annabelle taking notes throughout. The first object, a plush shark from an aquarium trip with Nima's late father, produces a clean, easy answer. The second, a fossilised stone, produces panic — Nima screams for help, is restrained and sedated, and the shorter explainer ends the demo there, with her paralysed and unable to move.

The longer explainer goes considerably further, describing repeated deaths, a loop in which the mother keeps remaking her daughter, a former carer named Pearl, and the fossil as the thing the mother's obsession was built around. Treat the extra material as one player's reading of a demo build rather than a confirmed chapter script.

The "Life/Fossil" chapter question

Chapter titles are not published. The 5 September 2026 Steam announcement describes five chapters and a test count but names none of them. A Steam Community thread dated 1 October nevertheless refers to "the Life/Fossil chapter" and asks whether it can be finished without a lobotomy, and whether anyone has cracked the safe. That is a player's label and a player's question, not a confirmed chapter name or a confirmed puzzle solution — the thread does not answer either point.

If the fossil test described above belongs to that chapter, the safe and the lobotomy are both things to keep an eye out for when the retail build arrives; as of 2026-10-18 the store page and the announcement do not describe them.

Practical notes for playing this stretch

The Steam page describes the core loop plainly: words are tied to objects you inspect, and you combine them inside Nima's mind to unlock meanings and open up dialogue. During tests you spend those words as conversation choices, steering how Nima answers her mother.

The 5 September 2026 announcement adds that the full game ships with over 230 words and more than 5,000 pairings, alongside three quality-of-life additions: a favouriting system for saving words to a custom list, an Available Choices filter that shows which words can be used as a dialogue option during tests, and a Word History screen showing the last 20 combinations you made. The same post says the word library interface was redesigned. Whether the demo build you are playing includes any of these is not something the post addresses, so check what your version actually offers rather than assuming.

If a test seems to stall, the conditional advice is the obvious one: inspect more objects before answering, since new words come from things in the room, and try pairings you have not used yet rather than repeating ones already in your history.

Demo versus retail chapter

These are worth keeping apart when reading anything about Chapter 2:

  • The demo's Chapter 2 half is the bedroom, the diary, the shark and fossil tests, and the sedation that closes it. Players have described it; it is not separately downloadable.
  • The retail Chapter 2 sits inside a five-chapter game with more than 15 main tests, 7 optional ones, and 13 endings according to the 5 September 2026 announcement. None of that has been demonstrated publicly, and the same post notes the game "has grown a lot since we released the demo", so expect the demo's material to be reworked.

For platform limits: as of 2026-10-18, the Steam store page lists Windows and macOS system requirements, English interface, audio and subtitles, single-player and captions, and records Steam Deck compatibility as unknown. It does not list console versions.

If you want the surrounding story rather than the chapter structure, the same explainer videos cover the basement opening, the drowning story Annabelle gives, and the theories about what was buried in the fossil — useful background before the 27 November 2026 launch adds the chapters nobody has seen.
