As of 2026-10-18, the official Steam page lists Am I Nima for release on Nov 27, 2026 and shows the game as unavailable, with a free demo available. That makes the useful walkthrough a demo walkthrough — recorded playthroughs also call it Chapter 1. You play Nima, trapped in her mother’s basement, and the loop is to click objects, collect words, combine them, and use the right ones in conversation.

Short answer: click every interactable, combine words aggressively, and only use highlighted words when Mom asks a direct question. In the recorded demo runs, the major story beats are fixed; what changes is how much of Nima’s memory you unlock before the final test.

The route below follows a Steam community discussion and recorded demo playthroughs; story interpretations are player readings.

How the word system works

  • You begin with a tiny vocabulary: Nima and Stranger, with Mom added as the first scene moves. New words come from clicking objects and from successful dialogue.
  • Combining two words creates a third. The game rewards obvious pairs: a person plus a job, an object plus a feeling, a memory plus a biological term. One recorded run reached marine biologist through the Dad + science line; a reply in the Steam thread gives Obsession from Life + Fossil.
  • Dialogue does not accept every word. The demo highlights valid choices — players describe them as green. If a word refuses to move into the mouth area, it is probably a combination ingredient, not a reply.
  • Don’t rush the bedroom. It is the demo’s main vocabulary dump, and the next scene is much more linear.

Demo route at a glance

1. Basement: the first conversation

You wake tied to a chair. The scene’s main branch is recognizing the woman as Mom; players note there are optional detours, such as calling her Dad or snapping at her, if you push the word combinations, but the standard route is the mother-daughter conversation.

Answer the food question with words that fit the scene — hunger, disgust, mom — then use the limited question at the end of the conversation to ask about Dad, swimming, or pain. Each answer adds context and words. The scene ends with Nima losing consciousness; you are not meant to escape the chair here.

2. Bedroom: click before you call Mom

After waking in your room, interact with everything. The bed, comics and books, old locker, jar of wishes, dolls, fish tank, lava lamp, diary, and the photo of Dad all add words. The bathroom is locked, and when Mom unlocks it you get a prompt to lock her in; in the demo she returns too quickly, so it is a story tease rather than a route.

When you are ready to move on, trigger the next conversation with Mom. The bedroom is the last free exploration block in the demo.

3. Shark plush: the aquarium memory

Mom’s first test item is the shark plush. The answer the scene is looking for is the aquarium trip with Dad, not a generic fish answer. That opens a memory about the toy and keeps the conversation on the “good daughter” track for the moment.

4. Fossil: the flashpoint

The second item is the fossil. Players report that this is a no-win conversation in the demo: calling her summer of work a waste of time triggers the argument, while answering with hatred or “why would you show this to me” triggers a violent reaction and sedation. Both recorded routes end with Nima back in bed, restrained, and the demo closing on a violent cliffhanger.

So don’t treat the fossil as a puzzle with a safe answer. It is the demo’s ending beat.

What to carry into the full game

The full game is listed for Nov 27, 2026 on the official Steam page as of 2026-10-18. The demo shows the loop you will use: vocabulary is progress, and conversation is the puzzle. If you want a specific word before then, Life + Fossil is the reported route to Obsession. For the broader systems, see the Am I Nima guide; for that word specifically, see how to get Obsession.

A recorded demo playthrough shows the route in motion, and the Creeping for Scale Models write-up covers the same demo from a player’s perspective.
